PURPOSE

The motto of The Student Foundation, "Students Helping Students", captures the essence of the organization's work, which is divided into three areas: raising scholarship funds for juniors and seniors, recruiting new students for the university, and sponsoring student activities. The most important aspect of Student Foundation work is raising money for student scholarships. Juniors and seniors often find it more difficult to obtain financial aid than do freshmen and sophomores. The Student Foundation makes an effort to find upperclassmen who need the scholarship in order to continue their education. Student recruitment is another aspect of their work. Members visit high school Sunday School departments and "College and Career Night" programs in area high schools to encourage young people to attend East Texas Baptist University. Student Foundation campus-wide events help promote healthy student life, help create a positive morale, and encourage others in their university experience.

WHAT IS STUDENT FOUNDATION?

In 1979 the group called Student Foundation was formed and officially
commissioned by the president of the university for the purpose of helping other students with their college education, thus their motto "Students Helping Students". Organized with only twelve members, the first group raised money for 15 scholarships and sponsored one campus-wide event their first year.

Today, with an annual membership of more than twenty students,
they continue their task of funding substantial scholarships for juniors and seniors approaching graduation. They also help in the production of Homecoming's "Friday Night Follies", sponsor the "Big Switch" each fall and produce the premier spring event, the "Tiger Awards". All monies raised from these events go toward funding student scholarships for the coming year.

Since the beginning of the Student Foundation, this group of
young men and women have striven to show the love of the Lord Jesus Christ by caring for fellow classmates. Comprised of some of the finest students of the university, its membership is thoughtfully and carefully selected by the foundation
with counsel from the faculty and staff and with the approval of the president.

Student Foundation operates under the auspices of the Division
of Institutional Advancement and is sponsored by the Director of Alumni Relations.
